Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Mashhadani spoke at an economic symposium hosted by the Akkad Center for Economic and Financial Studies and the Najaf Chamber of Commerce, where the issues plaguing the banking system and the difficulties of economic development in Iraq were discussed. His topic was “External transfer in light of global compliance rules and their impact on the Iraqi economy.”
He discussed the history of the dollar conversion crisis and its causes, the significance of Iraq’s banking system and economic growth, the challenges of international money transfers, the global compliance rules governing such transfers, and how these problems can be overcome.
While Dr. Jawad Kazem Al-Bakri presented a historical review of hard currency sales and the development of the currency selling window over the past twenty years in his lecture titled Exchange rate fluctuation and its repercussions on the Iraqi economy, he also indicated possible solutions to the crisis. Then, the floor was opened up for questions and comments from the audience, which focused mostly on the difficulties encountered by the business family because of the recent shifts in currency rates and the barriers to transferring money between family members.
Prof. Dr. Akeel Al-Hasnawi gave certificates of recognition to the symposium’s speakers as a way of showing his gratitude for their scientific and scholarly contributions. Eng. Haider Al-Athari, Chairman of the Chamber, awarded the lecturers with the Chamber’s shield in recognition of their contributions to increasing the business community of Najaf’s understanding of economic and financial matters.
